Roxburgh Gorge Gold Miners Discovery Tour - 1 day - Min 2 people

From Altitude Bikes in  Alexandra you will ride over the Clutha River bridge onto the Roxburgh Gorge trail and cycle 10 km to Doctors Point Jetty.  Here you will board a Jet boat with your bikes and be transferred 12km to Shingle Creek.  During the boat transfer you will hear about the early Gold Rush history of the Roxburgh Gorge and see many of the old miners rock dwellings still in the Gorge.  Watch out for the 360 jet boat spin at the finish!  You then ride the next 12km climbing through tree lined switchbacks to the Roxburgh Dam, crossing this hydro electric dam, built in the 1940’s, and joining the Clutha Gold trail and continuing 9 km on to Roxburgh township where we will meet you outside 103 The Store at 4:00pm for return transport to Alexandra.

Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold Trail – 3 Day Package – Min 2 people

Day 1 – Your ride starts in Alexandra where you will follow the Clutha River down the Roxburgh Gorge Trail. After 14km you will transfer onto a boat and transported 8km to the southern end of the trail where you will disembark and continue your ride to the Roxburgh Hydro Dam. From the Dam you will join the Clutha Gold Trail and ride 8km to overnight B&B accommodation in Roxburgh.

Day 2 – Ride from Roxburgh, along the Clutha Gold Trail passing Millars Flat and Lonely Graves and on to Beaumont for your overnight B&B accommodation 41km.

Day 3 – After breakfast you will start your journey leaving the Clutha River and head inland through rolling farm land, passing through Tunnel Hill and your final destination of Lawrence, 25km. You will be met in Lawrence, mid afternoon, for your return transport to Alexandra (option of overnight in Lawrence).

Otago Rail Trail/Roxburgh-Clutha Trails Combo 3 or 4 days - Min 2 people

We have picked the best of the best Central Otago cycle trails for you to ride providing the most memorable cycle experience possible. If we only had 3 or 4 days to cycle in Central this would be our pick.
Day 1
Meet at Altitude Bikes in Alexandra  and we transport you out to the Spectacular Poolburn Gorge section of the Otago Central Rail Trail. This one day ride takes in the Poolburn Viaduct ,37m high, two tunnels which are cut through schist rock bluffs and the longest bridge on the rail trail over the Manuherikia River.
This ride is 47km in distance and descends from Auripo Road through the stunning valleys of Central Otago townships of Lauder, Omakua, Ophir and Chatto Creek finishing back in Alexandra for your first nights accommodation. If time permits and you are still feeling fit you can ride up to Clyde on the Rail Trail and back to Alexandra on the river trail, 25km extra.
Day 2
From Alexandra you will ride over the Clutha River bridge onto the Roxburgh Gorge trail and cycle 10 km to Doctors Point Jetty. Transfer onto the Jet boat with your bikes and hear about the early Gold Rush history of the Roxburgh Gorge while aboard and see many of the old miners rock dwellings still in the gorge, after 12 km you will be dropped off at Shingle Creek.  You then ride the next 12km climbing through tree lined switchbacks to the Roxburgh Dam, crossing the dam and joining the Mighty Clutha River ( New Zealand largest river by volume) ride 9 km on to Roxburgh township and overnight B&B accommodation.
Day 3
From Roxburgh township you will follow the willow lined Clutha Gold trail for 20 km, down stream, passing whitewater rapids and bluffs through to Miller Flat and then into the spectacular Beaumont Gorge, pass the swing bridge and onto Beaumont, 40 km in total.  Here you will have return transport to Alexandra (end of 3 day trip) or overnight  B&B accommodation.
Day 4.
Ride from Beaumont accommodation towards Lawrence passing through Tunnel Hill and finishing in the historic town of Lawrence. You may have time to visit Gabriel’s Gully  the sight of the first gold rush in New Zealand before our van collects you in the early afternoon and transfers you back to Alexandra and the finish of your tour.

Clutha Gold Trail – 2 Day Package

Day 1 – Transport from Alexandra to Roxburgh Hydro Dam where you will start your trip, riding along the Clutha River and passing through Roxburgh and Millars Flat for overnight B&B accommodation.

Day 2 – After breakfast you will start your day riding the Beaumont Gorge following the rapids on  the Clutha River and head inland through rolling farm land, passing through Tunnel Hill and your final destination of Lawrence, 25km. You will be met in Lawrence, mid afternoon, for your return transport to Alexandra (option of overnight in Lawrence).
